If You’re Not Challenged, Change Something
I used to worry about the fact that I got bored too easily and needed to change what I do – I need to be challenged!
Now this could be because I haven’t yet found my niche, but also I think it is a big part of being an entrepreneur at heart.
I have just gone through cancer over the last several months (I’m in remission now, so all good!) and this forced me to be at home and hospital a lot, so I had to step back from my current main business.
Going through this experience gave me plenty of thinking time and I reflected on what I really enjoy doing, which is teaching and being creative. What is great, I managed to get to over 100,000 words of my novel that I’m writing, and as I write this, I’m going though the second edit of the book in preparation to sending it to an agent (or two).
So in the end this has been a good experience, not that getting cancer is a good, and I certainly would not recommend it, but it has forced a good change on me. I am grateful to many people, not least my lovely wife, my staff at my business and some outside help and support that I’ve had, who have helped with my transition to this new life and challenge…
As part of my new work-life, I have also been extremely busy putting together a course on increasing business profits, as this is something I enjoyed doing with clients when I had my Chartered Accounting Practice a few years back. I am putting on my first webinar this week, which is a whole new experience for me, but I am really looking forward to it (despite being nervous), is these makes me feel alive! I am passionate about helping businesses and this will be my way of getting my ideas out to as many business owners as possible.
This has all led me to new challenges and has put me well outside of my comfort zone in many ways. My next new challenge is getting my book published, which will be w whole new journey, but one that I want to go on, as I have several other novels to write and would like to share with the world.
believe that if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur, you have to break out of your comfort zones.
Breaking out of your comfort zone and setting new challenges will lead you to growth, and by putting yourself into new situations stimulates your creative juices, which is possibly why I like to challenge myself.
So if you are feeling comfortable right now, I’m not suggesting you do what I have done, but perhaps you might challenge yourself to something new…even if it’s to introduce a new product or service to your business.
Being an entrepreneur is one of the most challenging jobs you can do, as you end up wearing many hats, working long hours and have to make some tough decisions. But then all of that is why we do it…isn’t it? In order to be your own boss and to have that potential for unlimited income and the freedom of not being ‘told what to do’, this is what comes with the territory.
So be a great entrepreneur and change something today.
As always thank you for taking the time to read my blog and if you like what you’ve read, please share it with others.
