What is your goal in life?

What is your goal in life

This is such an open question, and I’m not too sure how many people actually ask this question…and those that do; ‘do they come up with the right answer?’

Is there a right answer to this question? Well probably not really.

The right answer will be different for everyone and I’d like to add my bit by pointing you in the right direction with this post…and I hope it helps.

So let me ask you some more questions, as follows:

Is your goal in life to be successful?

I’m sorry to begin by answering this question with another question, which is ‘How do you measure success?‘ The reason this second question is more important to the first, is that by defining success, you will know what you are trying to achieve and you’ll have a target. You’ll also know when you get there if you define what success looks like for you.

So make sure you set some goals..like for example ‘success to me means having £xx in the bank; or success to me means having x number of buy to let properties; or success means to me having £x per month income;etc.

As it happens for me success looks like…’having my own business, which is run by a management team where I draw an income each month, so that I can spend my life doing what I enjoy doing, which as it happens is writing articles like this and writing my first novel.’

As it happens I also live in a lovely house in a lovely part of the UK with my beautiful wife, and we have just got back from walking the dog on a lovely sunny day, which inspired this blog article.

So define your success and work towards it.

Is your goal in life to be happy?

I would suggest to you that if you define your goal in life as being happy, then this is not specific enough. After-all, ‘what is happiness?’

Happiness is defined ‘gladness or joy is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy’

But in truth; do we need this type of definition? We all know when we are either unhappy or better still happy.

There are essentially two sides to your life, which are: Your home or family life…and your work life. If either is not working for you, then you will not be as happy as you could be and it might be that you are unhappy, as a result of one area of your life not working. In many instances, this is as a result of being unhappy in what it is you do for a living, you may hate your job or the business you are running. so the question is, if you are unhappy in what you are doing…why are you doing it?

So make sure you have a good balance between work and home life and re-visit each side of your life to make sure you are happy in both.

Is your goal in life to be rich?

Being rich is not always the be all and end all…having bucket loads of money and not having the time to enjoy it is not being rich the way I see it. If you have all the money in the world, but with no time to enjoy it…what’s the point.

So everything is a balance…it is also about how you make yourself rich and what you do to achieve it. You also need to define rich for yourself.

At what point do you say ‘I’m rich!’ Because if you define ‘Rich’ for you, then you will know when you have arrived.

Which leads me on to the next goal….

Is your goal to enjoy life to the full?

In order to enjoy life to the full, then you will need to have a certain level of money and income. The best situation to be in is to have surplus investment income from assets, like property, shares or a business you are able to step back from, but which still provides you with a satisfactory income to enjoy your life.
